Are you as excited about Dr. Seuss week as I am? In honor of the legendary author’s collection of children’s books, I have put together a list of Dr. Seuss-themed lesson plans for your toddlers and preschoolers to enjoy!
Each lesson plan comes with 5 different activities. Each activity focuses on a different subject: science, math, art, music and movement, and language and literature. These activities are designed to help your child practice critical areas of learning while having fun exploring different concepts of each book! Let’s get started on our literary adventure!

Horton Hears a Who!
This is my newest lesson plan in the mix! Join Horton on his journey to find the Whos a safe place to live. Your child will explore a hearing activity, patterns, rhyming, sculpting with recycled materials, and loud and quiet noises with this lesson plan!
Oh, the Place You will Go!
Your toddler will love this sensory-filled lesson plan! Explore new places and experience new things as you go on a bear hunt, create beautiful hot air balloons, practice counting skills, and explore the nerve endings on your feet!
Cat in the Hat Lesson Plan for Preschoolers
This lesson plan explores one of Dr. Seuss’s most well-known books. Your child will practice their fine motor skills, patterns, and painting skills!
BONUS: Story Sticks!
If your toddler is looking for new ways to bring more excitement to your story time, try creating some story sticks! These wooden spoons allow your child to take part as fun characters in whatever book you are reading. All you need are wooden spoons and markers. You could also get fancy and jazz up your sticks with other craft materials!
We created story sticks for Mr. Brown Can Moo! Can You? and they were a SUCCESS! My daughter loved the bee stick. She walked around holding it up and buzzing for at least an hour.
I hope you and your child have so much fun on this wonderful week of reading! Let me know how you and your children enjoyed these Dr. Seuss themed lesson plans in the comments! As a special reminder, every child is special and unique. They develop and learn at their unique rate. If you have questions or concerns about your child’s development, please seek advice from your child’s doctor. These activities are intended for preschool children; however, parents should supervise their children and even participate with them!
